After needlessly picking up a fifth yellow card of the season (in stoppage time no less!) against the all-over-the-place-right-now Mackems, Wayne’s going to miss his club’s trip to Spurs at the weekend. I doubt he’s too happy about that.

As a result, he should get ninety minutes against Danish minnows Aalborg in the Champions League again tonight.

Perhaps his weekend off will give him time to deal with his current legal hassles.

Greetings and a warm welcome to everybody reading, wherever that may be. This is post number one of the brand new Wayne Rooney section of this wonderful blogging community (to which I happily return). Nice to see Wayne wearing a suit to mark the occasion too.

But why a Wayne Rooney blog you’re probably not wondering? Well, which other player’s looks can drive one man to murder another in cold blood! This and the fact that he’s an often brilliant footballer with a penchant for losing his temper and shouting. Note the picture in the upper left corner of the page. Thirdly, he does sort of oddly resemble Shrek.

To me, Rooney is a fascinating figure in British popular culture. Yes, pop culture. Rooney belongs to the English, just as much as he belongs to Man Utd. How he copes with the presumed hassle I’ve no idea – though I suspect having tons of cash helps quite nicely.

This blog will try to balance Rooney the United number ten against Rooney the tabloid star. I might stray slightly off subject at times. We’ll see.

So again, thanks for reading. Did you know that Rooney celebrated his first birthday roughly two weeks before a man named Alex Ferguson was introduced as manager of Manchester United? Until today, neither did I.
